Amidst the opulent setting of the Cyber Security Awards Gala Dinner, the Chair of the Cyber Security Coalition, Jan De Blauwe, illuminated the profound meaning and paramount importance of these awards within the cybersecurity realm. As the evening's festivities commenced, this pivotal speech not only celebrated the exceptional achievements of the honorees but also underscored the awards' role in galvanizing and elevating the industry, setting a high standard for innovation, dedication, and excellence in safeguarding our digital world.

Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed guests, and distinguished members of the Belgian Cyber Security Coalition,

It is an honour to stand before you today at this prestigious event, where we celebrate excellence, commitment, and innovation in the field of information security. As we gather in this beautiful venue, let us take a moment to reflect on the significance of our mission and the critical role that each and every one of you plays in safeguarding the digital landscape of our nation.

Information security is not merely a technical challenge: it is a vital pillar that supports the very fabric of our society. In an era where our lives are increasingly intertwined with digital technologies, the importance of securing data, protecting our privacy, and ensuring the resilience of our systems cannot be overstated. Information security is the shield that guards our institutions, businesses, and citizens against the ever-evolving threats that lurk in the cyberspace.

The Belgian Cyber Security Coalition stands at the forefront of this enduring battle. Through its unwavering commitment to steering the community of cyber experts in Belgium, the Coalition has become a beacon of excellence and a hub for peer-to-peer exchange. It is this spirit of collaboration and shared knowledge that not only strengthens our defences, but also fosters a culture of innovation and trust.

Tonight, we are here to celebrate several remarkable individuals and teams who have distinguished themselves in the field of cyber security. We have awards in four categories: the Young Professional who represents the bright future of our industry, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), whose strategic vision and leadership ensure the safety of our enterprises, the Researcher/ Educator, who expands the boundaries of our knowledge and nurtures the next generation of experts; and the Personality of the Year, a figure whose influence and achievements resonate throughout the cyber security community.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many applicants who submitted their candidatures. This year, we were presented with a particularly strong field of contenders, each demonstrating exceptional skill, dedication, and passion for their work. Your contributions have not gone unnoticed, and you have set the bar high for the future of cyber security in Belgium.

I must also express my deepest gratitude to the members of the jury. You have dedicated yourselves to the challenging task of evaluating our candidates, a task that requires wisdom, insight, and a profound understanding of the intricacies of cyber security. Your efforts ensure the integrity of these awards and the recognition of true merit.

Lastly, we are honoured to have with us tonight the Minister of Justice, Mr. Paul Van Tigchelt, who will announce the key award of the evening: Cyber Security Personality of the Year. Minister Van Tigchelt’s presence underscores the importance that our government places on cyber security and its commitment to supporting the initiatives that safeguard our nation’s digital infrastructure.

As we proceed with the ceremony, let us celebrate not just the achievements of the individuals and teams we honour tonight, but also the collective progress we are making in building a more secure, resilient, and trustworthy digital Belgium.

Thank you for your dedication to the cause of cyber security, and may tonight’s event inspire us to reach even greater heights in the days to come.
